The washing machines and tumble dryers at the Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences ran at full speed for many months in order to investigate the factors influencing the fiber fragmentation of textiles.\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp data-block-key=\"96t1u\">The results show a significantly higher particle discharge in the tumble dryer than in the washing machine. It is also clear that the load of the appliances has a decisive influence on fiber loss. To this end, loads of 1.3 kg and 3.2 kg were compared during washing and drying.\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp data-block-key=\"5bnha\">This clearly shows that a heavier load has a positive effect on particle discharge. This means that with a larger load, relatively speaking, fewer particles are carried into the environment. As a result, optimal utilization of the washing machine and dryer (according to the manufacturer's specifications) is not only worthwhile from an energy point of view. In the textile industry, this term has been used for decades to describe functional, ultra-fine continuous and spun yarns whose individual filaments are finer than 1.0 dtex. With 1.0 dtex yarns, 10,000 meters weigh only 1 gram - a clearly defined fibre type that is not to be equated with the problem of fibre fragmentation.\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp data-block-key=\"8cmn5\">That's why we at VAUDE deliberately speak of fiber fragmentation.
