Goal: reduce waste

The proper disposal of recyclable waste is an issue close to our heart. Yet residual waste remains our “problem child”.

More waste due to renovation

Worthless waste or valuable secondary raw materials? “Waste” is a key environmental problem. For one thing, limited resources are wasted. For another, some wastes are a serious threat to wildlife, for example, such as plastic bags or synthetic micro particles that end up in the oceans. Last but not least, dangerous substances can be released into the environment when improperly disposed of.

Waste management has a high degree of environmental relevance at our headquarters in Tettnang-Obereisenbach. All waste is collected by a local waste management company and properly disposed of, or it is brought to a collection station with documented proof by VAUDE employees.

Reduce residual waste by 10% per employee by 2015

Residual waste is our "problem child". At VAUDE, it consists primarily of production scraps that thus far cannot be recycled.

VAUDE has had a waste potential analysis carried out by experts in order to significantly reduce waste and to ensure the most environmentally friendly form of waste disposal as possible. The results of this are now being systematically implemented.

Our goal is by 2015 to have reduced waste accumulation in kg per employee by 10% as compared to 2010.

In 2013, 1900 kg material waste (polyethylene) was collected separately from production at the headquarters at the Tettnang-Obereisenbach location and was forwarded to a recycling company.

Wastes from renovation accrued only in 2013

At the headquarters, a total of 679.8 tons of waste were also accrued in 2013. It should be noted that VAUDE remodeled a former warehouse into office buildings. All waste generated for this one renovation were included in the sum of 679.8 tons.

Despite careful separation for recycling, residual waste increased due to the renovation measures. Compared to the previous year, we disposed of 25 percent more foil. This was also due to the renovation. Detailed figures are published in our EMAS Environmental Statement (PDF download) - Please link to PDF.
