2013 Sustainability Report

100 percent renewable energy

We use electricity from renewable resources exclusively – and as sparingly as possible. In 2013, we were able to save 22 percent of electricity in manufacturing.

Saving energy, wherever possible

In 2013, VAUDE consumed 574,506 kWh of electrical power at its company headquarters in Tettnang- Obereisenbach. Since mid-2009, we only use electricity generated from renewable resources. The percent of renewable energy in electricity consumption is therefore 100%.

Decreasing power consumption despite increasing employee levels

In 2013, power consumption at VAUDE Str. 2 was 10% less than the previous year. Based on the base year of 2008, power consumption per employee has even fallen by 15%. This is particularly encouraging, as the number of annual employees increased by 39% between 2008 and 2013.

22 percent less power for bag production

In production (bag production), power consumption for this segment has been recorded separately since 2012. Compared to the previous year, 19% less power was consumed in 2013 per ton of finished products manufactured.

If you take into account the overall power consumption at the company headquarters in Tettnang-Obereisenbach (without factory sales) based on the amount of finished products made, a reduction of 22 percent can be observed.

Here, energy management measures, such as the optimization of a pump control on a product machine and more efficient lighting, have taken effect.

Energy savings in offices

There are even ways to reduce power consumption in our offices. To ensure that power-saving devices are used, a VAUDE Directive for the purchase of office supplies has been implemented: office equipment should either bear the Blue Angel or the EU Ecolabel (Euro-Blume). The Energy Star is our minimum requirement. Tips on how individual employees can save energy are to be found on the intranet.
