Colorful yet still green

Modern dye processes for stronger environmental protection

Eco-friendly color for your bags, backpacks and apparel

Whenever possible we use materials that can be dyed with environmentally friendly processes such as “ecolour”, which produces less emissions and consumes less water and energy.

And as you can see, they are just as colorful as those dyed with conventional processes. Easy on your eyes, and easy on the planet!

Products that are either undyed or dyed with environmentally friendly procedures bear the VAUDE Green Shape label. These technologies work for a selection of colors and fibers.

Currently, we are primarily using them for all of our plaids, such as trekking shirts and blouses as well as for all wool fabrics. Starting with the Winter Collection 2017, we will begin to offer fleece in our Rienza Series that was dyed using this process.

Yarn spool or textile pulp is dyed

Whenever possible, we use fabrics that were dyed with environmentally friendly methods, such as yarn dye or solution dye methods.

“VAUDE ecolour” is a solution dye process, which doesn’t require the use of bath dying or additional rounds of rinsing. This saves a large amount of water.

In this process, dye pigments are added directly during the spinning process. In conventional methods, on the contrary, yarn is first spun in its natural state and then colored in several rounds of dyeing and rinsing.

Less energy, less emissions

According to data provided by our suppliers, this process not only reduces the emissions caused by the dye process by 62 percent; it also requires 89 percent less water because not as many rinsing cycles are needed.

Because of the fact that dye pigments are not washed out again during rinsing processes in the ecolour process, 63 percent less dye chemicals are required. Due to the reduction of rinsing cycles, this dye process also saves 63 percent energy.
