bluesign® percentage is increasing

In order to make our products even more environmentally friendly, we use as many certified materials as possible. bluesign® materials are our first choice.

“Purity Law” for textiles

The bluesign® Standard is like a purity law for textiles – only materials are allowed that do not put a burden on people or the nature. More on the bluesign® Standard here.

We are unable to evaluate which materials are used for our products and in what quantities for our own production site in Tettnang-Obereisenbach (see details here). As an alternative, we therefore report here on the percent of our collection that is produced in accordance with the bluesign® Standard.

In general, a further increase in the bluesign® percentage in the collection is a very challenging goal. Why? It is difficult to keep up with the high pace we’ve had for developing greener products. All measures that were “easily” available have already been implemented in recent years, such as the conversion from conventional cotton to organic cotton.

80% bluesign® in the Apparel Collection

Now it is becoming ever more difficult to increase the proportion of environmentally friendly products even further, because the amount of eco-friendly, market-ready materials and technologies is still low. This is especially true for backpacks, tents, shoes and accessories.

So we are all the more proud of the role that bluesign® plays in our clothing collection. More about it here.

New bluesign® regulation as of 2015

bluesign® differentiates two levels up to now: bluesign® approved fabric and bluesign® product (the entire finished product). Read more details here.

VAUDE uses a very high percentage of bluesign® approved fabric in the collection.

To develop the textile industry further, bluesign® has now tightened the conditions under which a product can bear the bluesign label: the bluesign® approved fabric level has been cancelled. Products made after 31.12.2015 may no longer bear this label. All products must then meet the requirements of a bluesign® product which are significantly stricter.

We are eliminating the use of the bluesign® approved fabric label as of our Winter Collection 2015 and will label our products with the VAUDE Green Shape label. The Green Shape concept can be found here.
